Popular Books - "The Indigo Girl" by Natasha Boyd In-Person

Join us for a discussion of The Indigo Girl by Natasha Boyd. Based on historical documents, including Eliza’s letters, this is a fiction account of how Eliza Lucas, age 16, produced indigo dye on a South Carolina plantation in the 1700s, when tensions with the British, and with the Spanish in Florida, were rising, and slaves were starting to become restless. At that time, indigo dye exports laid the foundation for the incredible wealth of several southern families who still survive today; When Eliza Lucas passed away in 1793, President George Washington served as a pallbearer at her funeral. In The Indigo Girl, romance, intrigue, forbidden friendships, and political and financial threats weave together to form the story of a remarkable young woman whose actions were ahead of her time.
